RELEASE: Pompeo Foundation Releases White Paper on America’s Iran Strategy

As Israel conducts its massive military operation against Iran, "Turning the Tide on Tehran" calls for a U.S. strategy centered around maximum pressure.

McLean, VA – The Pompeo Foundation today released a new white paper entitled "Turning the Tide on Tehran: An Iran Strategy That Restores Deterrence and Protects U.S. Interests," the first in a series of planned policy publications by the organization founded to advance the foreign policy vision of former Secretary of State and CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

The report outlines a clear strategy to put an end to the Iranian regime's nuclear ambitions and regional destabilization by reviving – and broadening – the policies that successfully contained Iran during the first Trump Administration.

“Israel’s devastating military campaign against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and military high command have put the Islamic Republic in an extremely perilous position,” said Jim Richardson, Executive Director of the Pompeo Foundation.“This white paper lays out a clear strategy to exploit internal and external pressure points to halt Iran’s nuclear program and advance America’s national security interests.”

The report points to the success of President Trump's first-term maximum pressure campaign, which designated over 970 Iranian entities and individuals, sanctioned more than 70 Iran-linked financial institutions, and removed 1.5 million barrels per day of Iranian oil from global markets.

Another key component of the strategy involves supporting Iran's organized democratic opposition movement – a factor that has often been overlooked by policymakers looking to counter the Iranian regime. Consistent with the strategic approach of the first Trump Administration, the report maintains that expanding the Abraham Accords will act as a bulwark against Iranian influence.
